In 2012, Canada joined the Open Government Partnership (OGP) to improve the quality of the programs and services that citizens receive. As we complete the second year of our membership in the Partnership, it is time, once again, to invite Canadians to contribute to the development of Canada’s Open Government Action Plan—Action Plan 2.0.

Over the next few months, the Government of Canada will host consultations, both in person around the country and online on the Open Government website, data.gc.ca. These conversations will inform the development of Action Plan 2.0, and accordingly, Canada’s commitment to a more open, transparent, and accountable government.

Our goal is to achieve a rich and productive dialogue on how to ensure Action Plan 2.0 builds on the successes and lessons learned over the past two years. We are doing our best to make sure every interested person and group has an opportunity to contribute to Action Plan 2.0. In fact, we have just posted our consultation approach and we invite you to provide feedback online in the comment box provided, or by email.

The consultation will run from April until September 2014 in three phases:

  • The first phase seeks input on the consultation approach itself.
  • In the second phase, the focus will be on generating ideas, both in person with round tables and via online discussions.
  • The third phase consists of open discussion on the potential activities to be included in Canada’s Action Plan 2.0 to refine and strengthen the potential commitments identified by phase two.

A report on the findings from the consultation will be published by the end of the year, and summaries of comments will be posted at regular intervals.

Thanks. We look forward to hearing from you.
