We’ve reached a significant point in the delivery of Open Government in Canada—it’s time to review our progress against Canada’s Action Plan on Open Government 2014-. But first, we’d like to provide some background.
In developing the 2014- Action Plan, we held online and in-person consultations with Canadians to develop twelve commitments—concrete actions that would make Canada’s government more transparent and accountable to citizens. These commitments were detailed in Canada’s Action Plan on Open Government 2014-, which we posted on open.canada.ca and submitted to the Open Government Partnership (OGP).
The OGP process sets standards and principles to guide countries toward more open, accountable, and responsive government. Part of the process is that government action plans are created, and later reviewed, in collaboration with citizens and civil society.
We’re now more than halfway through implementing Canada’s 2014- Action Plan. The draft Mid-term Self-assessment Report on progress so far will follow. Over the weeks that follow the release, you have the opportunity to make suggestions or comments online as we enter the home stretch of the 2014- Action Plan.
