Thank you to everyone who made the first Canadian Open Data Experience (CODE) a success!

In particular, we want to thank the event organizers, XMG Studio and everyone who dedicated their weekend to supporting CODE, including all our open government colleagues from across the Government of Canada.

Most importantly, we want to thank the over 900 participants from across Canada who turned their talents toward “Solving Problems and Increasing Productivity Through the Use of Open Data.” They teamed up to produce 110 submissions before the 5 p.m. March 2 deadline, and we’re incredibly excited to see the results.

We were overwhelmed by the innovation, teamwork and sense of community that we saw on display this weekend. It was fantastic to see teams interacting, trading notes, and generally enjoying themselves. We hope all the virtual participants found the weekend rewarding. From the stream of email questions we received, and the buzz on Twitter, it would certainly seem so. It was useful to see which data sets were of greatest interest to the participants.

If you want to get a better sense of how the weekend went, check out XMG’s @CODE_Hackathon Twitter account.

To all the participants—take a well-deserved rest. At least, until the week of March 17th when the top 15 apps will be featured on XMG’s CODE website and voting will open for the CODE Fan Favorite Prize!
